Planning your stay

Questions & Answers

Everything couples and families ask us about planning a wedding or a holiday at Villa Vernaschi, in the hills of Le Marche.

The villa & the area

Where exactly is Villa Vernaschi?

In Santa Maria Nuova, in the green hills of Le Marche in central Italy, between the Terra dei Castelli and the Colli dell’Infinito, the “Hills of the Infinite”. Ancona is about 20 km away and the Conero Riviera around 25–30 minutes by car.

Can you see the sea from the villa?

No, the view stretches across rolling hills to the Apennine mountains, which is what makes the sunsets here so special. The sea is a short drive away: the beaches of the Conero Riviera are 35–40 minutes from the villa.

What are the nearest airports?

Ancona (AOI) is about 30 minutes away. Rimini (RMI) is around 1 hr 20 min, Perugia (PEG) 1 hr 45 min, Pescara (PSR) 1 hr 50 min, Bologna (BLQ) 2 hr 15 min and Rome Fiumicino (FCO) about 3 hr 15 min.

Do we need a car?

We recommend one. The villa is in the countryside, which is exactly its charm, and a car makes it easy to explore the hill towns, wineries and beaches. For a wedding, a private shuttle service is the best way to bring your guests to and from the villa.

Is Le Marche a good alternative to Tuscany?

Many of our guests think so. Le Marche has the same rolling hills, hill towns, wine and food, with far fewer crowds, a genuinely local way of life and the Adriatic coast close by. It is often described as one of Italy’s best-kept secrets.

What is there to do nearby?

Wineries, truffle hunting, the Frasassi Caves, hill towns, trekking, cycling, lakes and the beaches of the Conero Riviera. Have a look at our guide to things to do nearby.

Is the villa suitable for young children?

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 3pm to 6pm and check-out is by 10am.

When is the best time to visit?

Late spring and early autumn are glorious, with warm days, fewer crowds and the countryside at its most beautiful, while July and August are perfect for long days by the pool. For stays between November and March, ask us for a quote.

What is included in the rent?

Electricity and water are included. You can see current rates and supplements on our pricing page, and the enquiry form on our home page gives you an instant estimate as soon as you choose your dates.

Will there be food and supplies when we arrive?

You will find a first supply of toilet paper waiting for you. Beyond that, Italian rules on holiday rentals mean we cannot leave consumables such as food or spare household supplies in the house, so plan a quick shop on arrival day. It is part of the fun: local markets and shops are full of wonderful produce.

Is there air conditioning?

The villa has a modern underfloor cooling system with wall-mounted dehumidifiers, which keeps the house comfortable without the noise of traditional air conditioning. It works best with doors and windows kept closed during the hottest hours.

Can we have the house cleaned during our stay?

Of course. We can put you in touch with local people who offer cleaning during and at the end of your stay, paid directly by you.

Is there daily housekeeping?

Daily cleaning is not included, as the villa is rented as a private home. If you would like it, we can put you in touch with local people who offer daily or occasional cleaning, paid directly by you.

No, the villa is self-catering, so you are free to enjoy breakfast whenever you like. If you would like someone to cook for you, a private chef can be arranged on request, from a lazy breakfast to a farewell brunch by the pool.

Yes. Firewood is not included, but it is easy to find nearby.

What if we need a doctor or a pharmacy?

There are pharmacies in the nearby towns, and hospitals in Ancona and Jesi. In an emergency, call 112, the European emergency number.

Is there a security deposit?

Yes, a refundable security deposit is required. You can find the amount on our pricing page.

Weddings at the villa

How many wedding guests can the villa host?

Up to 160 guests for the celebration.

Where would our guests stay if they don’t all fit in the villa?

There are lovely B&Bs, agriturismi and villas just minutes away. We will point you to the best options for your guests.

What is a typical wedding weekend at the villa?

Usually three days: a welcome pizza night on the evening your guests arrive, the wedding day itself, and a farewell brunch with a pool party. Many couples stay on for 5, 6 or 7 nights and turn it into a holiday.

Can we choose our own caterer and suppliers?

Yes. There are no compulsory caterers or tied suppliers: you are free to choose the people you love. After booking we are happy to share a list of trusted local contacts and help you find the right people.

How do we avoid hidden costs?

Many suppliers send generic quotes, as if for a classic restaurant wedding, and the extras only appear at the very end. A wedding at a private villa deserves quotes made to measure, so always choose suppliers whose quotes are complete and clear. Together with your wedding planner, we will make sure there are no hidden costs along the way.

Do we need a wedding planner?

A wedding planner isn’t compulsory, but an event coordinator is needed for the celebrations. We warmly recommend a wedding planner, though: organising a wedding from abroad is not easy. If you don’t have one, we can introduce you to an experienced local planner.

What is the difference between a wedding planner and a coordinator?

A wedding planner is with you from the day you decide to get married: they contact the suppliers, give you options to choose from, organise tastings and take care of every detail, working alongside you for anything from a few months to more than a year. A coordinator arrives just before the celebrations begin and runs the event, from the evening to all three days of festivities, following your instructions. Since it is hard to organise everything from a distance, we recommend a wedding planner. And in our experience, the difference in cost between the two is often smaller than you might think.

What happens if it rains?

For weddings with more than 20 guests, marquees and rain covers are hired to set up the villa properly, so the day is protected whatever the weather.

Can we have the ceremony at the villa?

Yes: the ceremony among the cypresses, with views across the hills to the Apennines, is one of the most beautiful moments of a wedding here. Many couples complete the legal formalities beforehand and celebrate with a symbolic ceremony at the villa; your wedding planner can advise you on the paperwork.

Is there a terrace for dinner?

There is no terrace as such, but there is something we like even more: a beautiful wooden portico beside the pool, perfect for long dinners. For larger weddings, tables can be set by the pool or out in the gardens.

How late can the music go on?

Music and hours follow Italian regulations and the villa’s house rules. Your wedding planner will help you plan the evening so the party can carry on in the right way.

How do wedding guests get to the villa?

Parking at the villa is reserved for guests staying there, so for the wedding day we recommend a private shuttle service (NCC) to bring guests to and from the villa.

Is there a budget we should have in mind?

Every wedding is different. The rent of the villa is shown on our pricing page; catering, flowers, music and the rest are agreed directly with your suppliers. In the enquiry form you can share an indicative overall budget, and an honest figure helps us suggest the right options from the very start.

Are there any extra costs beyond the estimate in the enquiry form?

For weddings and events there is an event fee, based on the number of guests celebrating with you. Before the festivities begin, the gardens are tended with extra care. And with so many guests, plenty of whom will end up jumping in the pool, the pool needs extra care: its treatments increase with the number of people using it. That way you can enjoy beautifully kept gardens and a pool that stays clean, sparkling and safe for everyone, right to the last dip. You’ll find the fee for each guest band on our pricing page.
